Working Dog Guitars is named after our Border Collie 'Baxter' but the name also stands for anyone who works hard for their music - The busking muso, the guitarist in a garage band or the seasoned pro.
We use native tone woods such as
- Tasmanian Blackwood,
- Queensland Maple,
- Queensland Bunyia Pine,
- Tasmanian high altitude King William Pine,
- Victorian Otway wind breaker pine,
- Sassafras, and
- Red Gum to name a few.
Bunya Pine and Tassie Blackwood are gaining a great reputation in Australia and North America as superior tone woods.
Blackwood has qualities somewhere between Mahogany and Rosewood.
Depending on customer requirements, we also use
- North American Spruce,
- Rosewood,
- Mahogany, and
- African Wenge as a replacement for Ebony.
We use traditional French polishing techniques, Nitrocellulose and Danish Oils that produces a rich deep patina without dampening the soundboard as some modern lacquers do.
We don't make a lot of guitars but the few we do make are quality instruments rich in tone and balance.
