Working Dog Guitars

Established 2011        ABN   12 663 760 730

Working Dog Guitars is named after our Border Collie 'Baxter' but the name also stands for anyone who works hard for their music - The busking muso, the guitarist in a garage band or the seasoned pro.

We use native tone woods such as

  • Tasmanian Blackwood,
  • Queensland Maple,
  • Queensland Bunyia Pine,
  • Tasmanian high altitude King William Pine,
  • Victorian Otway wind breaker pine,
  • Sassafras, and
  • Red Gum to name a few.

Bunya Pine and Tassie Blackwood are gaining a great reputation in Australia and North America as superior tone woods.

Blackwood has qualities somewhere between Mahogany and Rosewood.

Depending on customer requirements, we also use

  • North American Spruce,
  • Rosewood,
  • Mahogany, and
  • African Wenge as a replacement for Ebony.

We use traditional French polishing techniques, Nitrocellulose and Danish Oils that produces a rich deep patina without dampening the soundboard as some modern lacquers do.

We don't make a lot of guitars but the few we do make are quality instruments rich in tone and balance.
